In the current 2025–2026 Illinois legislative session (the 104th General Assembly), House Bill 3486 (HB3486) is a commemorative bill. 

Bill Title: Amends the State Commemorative Dates Act to designate the month of August of each year as Moorish-American Awareness Month.

Purpose: To recognize and celebrate the historical and ongoing contributions of Moorish Americans to the state of Illinois and American society.

Status: As of May 29, 2025, the bill has been engrossed (passed by the House) and moved to the Senate for consideration.

Sponsorship: Introduced by Representative Justin Slaughter.
